69 "Where is your Husband, Nao?"

ある日メイソンがつかつかと私の前に立ちいきなり私に質問をしてきた。

One day, Mason walked to me straight and asked:

「Naoのハズバンドはどこにいるの？」と突然 聞かれた私Naoは
かなり焦ってしまってもぐもぐ。。。。。

"Where is your husband, Nao?"

Me, Nao did not know how to answer his sudden unexpected question and only mumbled . . .

夏になるとひとりで日本からやってくるNaoのハズバンドは
「どうしたんだろう？どこにいるんだろう？」と疑問に思ったらしい。

Nao comes alone from Japan every summer.

He must be wondering "what happened to Nao's husband, where is he?"

マミーが「Naoのハズバンドはメイソンのグランパよ」と言うと
メイソンは一瞬　頭を両手で抱え考え
「なんだ！そういうことか。。。」と納得顔で立ち去って行った。
Mommy told him "Nao's husband is Mason's grandpa."

Mason held his head with both hands and gave it a thought awhile and said

"Oh! I know what it is . . ." and left with a satisfying look.

しかし翌日　外出から戻るとツカツカと私の前に来て　今度は
「How many years your marriage life? 結婚生活は何年？」
といきなり聞かれた。
The next day, as he came home, he came to me straight again, and asked, this time,

"how many years are your marriage life?"
私はおどおど。。。「I'm sorry 15 years スミマセン１５年デス」
I was uneasy again and said . . .  "Well . . . 15 years . . ., I'm sorry."

去年の夏は自分から「I’m hungry」と言えなかったメイソンから
「Naoの夫はどこにいる？とか「結婚生活は何年してたか？」
なんて聞かれるとは思わなった私は驚いたり喜んだり。。。
Last summer, Mason could not say even "I'm hungry"

and this year he asked me

"Where is Nao's husband?"

"For how many years you were married?"

I never expected he would ask me such questions.

I am so surprised, and so happy . . .
今年の６月にダディの両親の結婚５０周年パーティに
マックスとメイソンも参加したので、
ふと[Naoのハズバンドはどうなっているんだろう」と思ったのだろう。
Max and Mason went to the party for the 50th anniversary of Daddy's parents in June.  Probably that's why he wondered about my husband.
それを自分から質問してくるなんてマミーも私もうれしい驚きであった。

He wondered and asked questions!  Mommy and I were so happy and amazed.
