食のミステリーは弟のメイソンにも現れる。
"Foods mystery" has appeared also on Mason's diet, Max's brother.
チキンフライが好きなのだが、家で揚げたチキンフライやチキン唐揚げは、手を付けない。
スーパーで売っている衣ガリガリのチキンフライを嬉しそうに食べている。
He loves fried chicken but he does not eat chickens fried at home.
It has to be fried chicken or nugget with hard batter coating from a super-market.
しかしメイソンは紛れもなく日本人のDNAの食生活である
Mason's diet no doubt comes from his Japanese DNA.
まず白いご飯と海苔が大好きである。
He loves plain steamed rice and dried laver.
虎屋の羊羹、ひよこ、どら焼き 大好き
Yo-kan (sweet jellied bean paste) of Tora-ya store, Hiyoko (Japanese sweet cake), dora-yaki (Japanese cake with sweet bean jam) are his favourite.
アメリカのお菓子より日本のお菓子に手が伸びる。
He preferes Japanese cakes to American ones.
アメリカ製とわかるはずもないがなぜか日本製の物しか食べない。
He has no idea if it is Japanese or American but he chooses Japanese products only.
マックスもメイソンも味見をして嫌いというのではなくて、
食べない物は、最初から全く口にしない。
Both Max & Mason do not taste foods to see if they like them or not,
they just do not eat them at all.
食べるものは、サッと手に取って食べる。
They choose instantly what they can eat .
食べる物と食べない物をどうやって彼らの中で判断するのかミステリーである。
It is a mystery for us how they choose which one to eat.
虎屋の羊羹は食べるけどアメリカの日本系スーパーで売っている
羊羹は食べない。
Mason eats yo-kan from Tora-ya store but he does not eat the similar yo-kan from the Japanese supermarket in America.

”こしひかり” が終わってしまったのでカリフォルニア米を焚いたら
ちょっと味見をしただけで食べない。
When we finished Koshihikari-rice (famous Japanese rice brand), we cooked California rice. He tasted a little and did not eat.
それでもそのうちにあきらめて食べるようになったが・・・
Though, in this case, after some time, he gave up and started to eat . . .
マックスは、ジュース類は一切飲まないが日本茶の冷ましたのは飲む。
Max does not drink any sorts of juice but he drinks cold Japanese green tea.
マックスは、果物は、ぶどう、りんご、日本の梨を食べるが、
メイソンは 果物は一切食べない。だがアップルジュースとグレープジュースは飲む。しかしオレンジジュースは飲まない。
Max eats grapes, apples, & Japanese pears.
Mason does not eat any fruits at all but he drinks apple juice and grape juice, but no orange juice.
あ〜本当に複雑！！
Complicated !!
二人とも野菜は一切口にしない。
They both do not take any vegetables.
メイソンはチキンナゲット、卵入りラーメン、ソーセージ、おにぎり、
チーズ、目玉焼きの白身だけ、海苔、市川園の卵スープ
Mason eats; chicken nuggets, ramen with eggs, sausages, onigiri (rice balls), cheese, fried eggs but only the white, fried laver, and egg soup of Ichikawa-En.
これらが毎日日替わりで登場する。
These are choices for his daily menu.
色々と手を替え品を替えて他の物も試して見るが全然手を出さない。
We tried many other kinds but he never showed interest.
毎日代わり映えのしない食事なので作る側も食べる側もあまり楽しくないが毎日セッセっとマクドナルドに通い白いご飯でおにぎりを作っている。
Boys meals are very much alike everyday, which is not so enjoyable to both who prepares and eats, but mommy is hanging on and going to McDonald's and making rice balls everyday.
