メイソンに深刻な問題が起きた。
A serious problem happened on Mason.
アレルギー検査の結果、ピーナッッツによるアナフィラキシーだという。
With the allergy test, we were told it was an anaphylaxis by peanuts.
これは食べるとショック症状を発し呼吸困難になり死に至るアレルギーだと言う。
Peanuts will cause a shock which will get you dyspnea (difficulty in breathing). It may even lead you to death in the worst case.
良く今まで何も起こらずに済んだものだ。
It has been just by luck that nothing serious has happened to him until then.
アメリカには、ピーナッツ入りチョコレート、ピーナッツバター、ピーナッツ入りクッキーなどピーナッツが溢れている。
In our life in America, we are surrounded by peanuts, such as chocolate with peanuts, peanuts butter, cookies with peanuts, etc., etc.
我が家でもダデイーがピーナッツ大好き・・・、
At home, their daddy loves peanuts . . .
テレビ映画などを見る時は必ず、山ほどの殻付きピーナッツを抱えていた。
He was watching movies on TV, always full of peanuts with shell in his hands.
しかもメイソンが二歳くらいまではよく抱っこしながら食べていた。
He was often holding Mason on the lap and eating peanuts utill Mason became around 2 years old.
考えただけでゾッとする。

早速エピペンというアナフィラキシー発症時に病院に搬送するまでの緊急補助注射を常備する事になる。
We prepared at home an auto-injector called EpiPen. EpiPen is used as a temporary emergency measure until a patient arrives at hospital.
メイソンの出かける時は、いつもでもどこでもピーナッツアレルギーと
書かれた緊急連絡先のブレスレットとエピペンは手放せない。
It is a must, when Mason goes out, wherever he goes, to wear bracelet and to bring along EpiPen. On the bracelet, it says "allergic to peanuts" and his contacts in emergency.
間もなくプリスクールに通い出したが、学校側ピーナッツ入りの物は、
絶対持たせない様に協力をしてくれている。
He soon started to go to preschool. His school staff was well aware of his peanuts allergy and careful for him not to take peanuts.
しかしどんなに注意をしていてもちょっとした隙に事件は起きてしまう。
However, even if we all are very attentive, it sometimes happens.
子供達は水泳が大好きでプライベートジムに良く泳ぎに行く。
Our boys like to swim very much and often go to gym to swim.
ある日、泳いだ後ジムのラウンジで持参のおやつを食べた後、
車に乗り込む。
One day, after swimming, they had some cookies they brought from home at the lounge and they got into the car.
車に乗る時にメイソンは、目をこすっていたがマミーは、
When Mason was getting into the car, mommy saw Mason was rubbing his eyes.
「きっと 疲れて眠いのかな～ 」と思っていた。
She thought "he must be tired and sleepy."
家まで２０分くらいかかる。
It is about 20-minute drive to home.
この時はダデイーが運転していた。
Daddy was driving at that time.
二人とも発話が困難な為、独り言以外は、大体無言で乗っている。
Boys have speech problem and they usually are quiet in a car, except mumbling something to themselves.
この時も車内は静かだった。
It was quiet in a car at this time.
発車後７−８分位してマミーが後ろを振り向くと何とメイソンの顔は、
両まぶたが腫れ上がりすでに顔がお岩さんの様に変形していた。
In 7-8 minute driving, mommy looked back and saw Mason's face.
His eyelids were all swollen up and his face turned to a monster.
すぐに“９１１”に電話をする。
Called 911 right away.
エピペンを持っていたが、幸い大きな病院まで７−８分の距離にいたので
病院に駆け込み大事には至らなかったがピーナッツの恐ろしさに
ダデイーもマミーも震えが止まらなかった。
Fortunately, they were driving somewhere 7-8 minutes to the hopital and they dashed into the hopital and could avoid the worst case it could have happened. Both mommy and daddy could not stop shivering with fright of peanuts.
ラウンジに落ちていたピーナッツ入りの何かを拾って食べたのであろう。
Mason probably picked up something with peanuts at the lounge and ate.
ピーナッツ入りが溢れているこのアメリカで何とか自分で判断出来るように教えなくてはならない。
We must teach him to make a proper judgement by himself. Peanuts are so common and accessible in America.
我が家にはもうひとりエピペン愛用者？がいる。
Our family has another EpiPen user .
マミーは２年前、ストレスより甲状腺ホルモンに異常をきたした。
Mommy got a disorder in a thyroid hormone caused by stress, 2 years ago.
治療をしたがそれと同じ頃に今まで大好きで食べていた果物、生野菜を
食べると喉に異常をきたす様になった。
She was treated but at around that time, she started to have some problem in the throat when she ate fruits and fresh vegetables.
アレルギー検査をすると果物、野菜のアナフィラキシーだという。
She was allergic to fruits and vegetables.
マミーは気の毒にサラダも果物も今は食べられない。
I am so sorry that she still cannot eat fresh salad nor fruits.
温野菜なら食べられるのでもっぱら温野菜を食べている。
Cooked warm vegetables are OK and she enjoys cooked vegetables.
それにしても一家に二人も エピペン常備者がいるなんて、なんて事でしょう！！
