30 We have IEP Meeting, but . . . - 2011
年に一度 両親と校長、担任そして地区特別学級担当者が集まり
IEPミーティングが開かれる。個人の学習プランのミーティングだ。
IEP meeting is held once a year. Parents, principal of school, teacher in charge, and the person in charge of Special Class of the area will get together. It is a meeting for individual study plan.
そこでその年一年の目標を決める大切なミーティングだ。
This is an important meeting to fix annual objectives for the year.
親としての教育上の心配事、先生への希望、先生からの要望など
前年のミーティングの達成度の分析をしながらその年の目標をきめていく。
Various educational concerns by parents, requests to teachers, requests from teachers to parents will be discussed. New objectives of the year will be finalized based on the achievement and evaluation of the previous year.
ミーティングで話し合われたことは文書にされ親が署名する。
Minutes of the meeting will be prepared and signed by parent.
IEPミーティングできめられたその年の目標を達成させるのが
先生の義務になっているので、どうしても親の目標よりずっと低く
設定されてしまうのが現状だ。
Teachers must achieve the objectives agreed at IEP meeting and so the objectives tend to be fixed much lower than parents' expectations.
メイソンのセラピスト問題も何回も話し合いをしたが結局、
昼休みなら良いとか廊下から観るなら良いとか 全く埒があかず
ついにこちらがあきらめてしまった。
After many discussions on sending Mason's personal therapist to school,
their suggestions were something like:
- it is possible only during lunch break,
- it is OK to watch the class from hall way.
We gave up to insist.
結果として普通クラス担任の先生とも直接コミュニケーションがとれぬまま
メイソンは算数の時間の普通クラスの参加ができなくなってしまった。
As a result, we could not directly communicate with teachers at ordinary class and
Mason could not attend mathematics class of ordinary class.
弁護士をつけて戦うことも出来たが自閉症の子供二人を
お願いしている立場としてそこまではやはり出来なかった。
We could fight with lawyer but we think of our position as parents asking to take care of two autistic children, we thought it was inappropirate to insist further.
ダディ、マミーは仕方なく学校は社会のルールや友達との生活
そして学校のイベントを楽しみ、勉強は週３回か４回の家庭教師に
見てもらえば良いと割り切ることにした。
Daddy and mommy concluded this matter that the feasible solution would be that:
the school for Max and Mason is the place to study social rules, life with friends, and enjoy events. And they study 3-4 times a week with personal teachers at home.
イベントと言えばメイソンが３年生の時、校内でイベントがあり、
その日1日エイブラハム・リンカーンに扮することになった。
Talking about event, there was an event at school when Mason was the 3rd grader.
He disguised as Abraham Lincoln for a day.
リンカーンについて本やインターネットで自分で調べ当日は、
リンカーンに扮して聴衆を待ち、お父さんお母さんが４〜5人集まると
何も見ないで「私はエイブラハム リンカーンです。ユナテッド ステイト アメリカの
１６代大統領で・・・」と何回もスピーチを行った。
Mason researched about Lincoln himself with books and internet.
On the event day, Mason, disguised as Lincoln, waited for audience to come.
For every 5-6 parent in group, he made a speech many times without looking at the draft. "I am Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States of America . . ."
マミーもダディも立派なリンカーンに涙腺もウルウル…
Both daddy and mommy saw Mason, costumed very handsome Lincoln,
with tearful eyes . . .
学校生活は日々問題が発生するがしかし有り難いことに二人とも
今まで学校に行くのを嫌がったことは一度もない。
Of course, at school we face various troubles from day to day but it is fortunate that they never say "no" to go to school.
この日はサインは「メイソン」ではなくて「リンカーン」と署名したようで
先生も笑ってました・・・・カワイイね・・・
Mason's signature on the day was not "Mason" but "Lincoln".
His teacher had to smile looking at it . . . . . How cute . . .
