57 A Sensible Boy Max

手のかからないマックス

マックスはパニックを起こす以外はマミーやダディを困らせることはほとんどない。

Max seldom troubles Mommy and Daddy except a panic problem.

パニックを起こしても泣いたりわめいたりすることはなく
ただ自分の額をうちつけるだけだ。
Even if he is in a panic, he does not cry nor scream.

He just bangs his forehead on the wall.

額が腫れあがっていても「痛い」とかなんとか全然言わない。
His forehead gets swollen up, still he does not even says "it hurts." or anything.
もちろん自分が気に入らないからと言って理由なく怒ったり泣いたりすることもない。
He never gets mad nor cry when he does not like something.
風邪などで具合が悪くなっても黙って何も言わず学校に行こうとする。
様子がおかしいのでマミーが「具合悪いの？」と聞くと
「YES」と答えるので額を触ると明らかに熱がある。
Even if he is sick, developping a cold or something, he tries to go to school without grumbling.  When Mommy asks if he is not feeling well, he says "yes".

Mommy touches his forehead and sees he is feverish. 
どんなに熱があってもぐずぐず言わずベットでじっと寝ている。
Even is he has a high fever, he does not grumble and rests quietly in his bed.
途中で吐き気が襲ってくると洗面所に駆け込み吐いている。
When he gets vomitting fit, he runs to a toilet and throws up.
間に合わないときはベット脇に用意された洗面器の中でちゃんと始末して
ベットを汚すことはほとんどない。

When it is too late, he throws up into a washbowl prepared at his bedside and he seldom soils the bed.

メイソンもやはりほとんど手がかからない。

メイソンは、マックスがパニックを起こすと
「どうしよう？どうしよう？」
「マミーはOK？マックスは？」と慌てふためき　
騒ぎが収まるまでジッと耐えている。

Mason is also very easy to look after.

When Max gets into a panic, he gets flustered, saying;

"what should I do, what should I do?"
"Are you OK, Mommy?  How's Max?

and he just stands still until Max settles down.

メイソンは慣れているとはいえやはり　マックスとマミーを助けることが
できずにいる自分をみて心はかなり傷ついていると思う。

Though Mason is getting used to this kind of fuss, I think he is hurt badly as he feel he is helpless, not being able to do something to help Max and Mommy.
